Before you go and get a Renters Insurance policy in North Carolina, make sure you know what is covered in that policy, so that you get enough coverage for protection in the event of a disaster or unexpected event like theft or vandalism.
1. Furniture and Appliances
Whatever furniture you brought with you to the rental property is yours and should be protected in the event of a tragedy. When you’re building your rental property, make a list of the furniture and appliances, from couches, chairs, and tables, to stoves, microwaves, and any other appliances in the home.
2. Outdoor Equipment
If you’re storing any of your personal outdoor equipment in a shed on the property, such as a lawnmower, rakes, weed eaters, or anything else, make sure it is also included in the list.
3. Jewelry
If you bring any jewelry with you to the property, you’ll also want coverage for it, as well. Your agent can help you determine a value if you aren’t sure, and you have some inherited pieces that cannot be replaced.
4. Electronics
If you have any televisions, surround sounds, computers or other electronics in your home, make sure that they are updated on your list for renters insurance. These are usually some of the first items stolen in burglaries, because they are easy to pawn for quick cash.
5. Large Collections
If you have a collection of items that you have spent years building, such as baseball cards, Pokémon cards, coins, or other types of items, make sure that you have a value you think this collection is worth, and share with your agent when building your policy.
These five things are some of the larger personal items that you can have on your policy, but your policy isn’t restricted to them. If you are in North Carolina and have more questions, reach out to our team today at Lee Insurance Agency LLC.
